Method

  1. 1.Combine bourbon, syrup, and bitters in a large container.
  2. 2.Add water for dilution — this replaces the ~20% dilution from stirring over ice.
  3. 3.Stir to combine. Bottle and refrigerate or keep at room temp.
  4. 4.Pour 3 oz per serving over a large ice cube.
  5. 5.Garnish with an expressed orange peel.

Notes

  • Water is essential — without it the batch will be too strong and the syrup/bitters won't integrate properly.
  • If building to order instead, omit the water. Build in a rocks glass: syrup, bitters, bourbon, stir with a large cube for 10-15 seconds.
  • Room temp storage is fine since there's no vermouth or juice — keeps for months.
