Created by Harry Johnson in the 1900 Bartenders' Manual. 'Bijou' means jewel in French — three equal parts representing diamond, emerald, and ruby.

  1. 1.Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice.
  2. 2.Stir for 25-30 seconds until well chilled.
  3. 3.Strain into a chilled coupe.
  4. 4.Garnish with a lemon twist and a brandied cherry.
