Method

  1. 1.Combine blueberries and sugar in a saucepan.
  2. 2.Muddle lightly to burst the berries.
  3. 3.Add water and heat over low-medium until sugar dissolves and berries release their juice.
  4. 4.Simmer gently for 10 minutes.
  5. 5.Remove from heat, add lemon juice, and let cool.
  6. 6.Strain through a fine mesh strainer. Bottle and refrigerate.

Notes

  • Lasts 2-3 weeks refrigerated.
  • The lemon juice brightens the flavor and helps preserve the deep purple color.
  • Beautiful in gin cocktails, lemonade, and as a base for blueberry-lavender drinks.
