Navy Grog
Classic Cocktails · Served rocks in a Double rocks glass
Created by Don the Beachcomber (Ernest Gantt) — one of his most famous tiki creations, riffing on the Royal Navy tradition of grog.
Ingredients
- Dark Jamaican Rum1 oz
- Demerara Rum1 oz
- White Rum1 oz
- Lime Juice0.75 oz
- Grapefruit Juice0.75 oz
- Honey Syrup0.5 oz
- Allspice Dram0.5 oz
- Soda Water1 oz
Method
- 1.Combine all rums, juices, honey syrup, and allspice dram in a shaker with ice.
- 2.Shake hard for 12 seconds.
- 3.Strain into a double old-fashioned glass over crushed ice.
- 4.Top with soda water.
- 5.Garnish with a spent lime shell filled with crushed ice (the 'ice cone').
Notes
- The three-rum blend is essential: Jamaican for funk, Demerara for richness, white for brightness.
- Don the Beachcomber's original 'ice cone' garnish was a lime half filled with crushed ice, placed in the center of the drink.
