Hurricane

Classic Cocktails · Served tall in a Hurricane glass

Created by Pat O'Brien at his bar in New Orleans during the 1940s. The original spec was a simple, spirit-forward drink — not the syrupy punch it often becomes.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1.Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice.
  2. 2.Shake hard for 12 seconds.
  3. 3.Strain into a hurricane glass over crushed ice.
  4. 4.Garnish with an orange half-wheel and cherry.

Notes

  • Pat O'Brien's original uses equal parts rum and passion fruit syrup with lemon — no orange juice, no grenadine.
  • Use a quality Jamaican rum like Appleton or Smith & Cross for depth.
